Sandees
The History
Sandys was purchased here in Billings in 1958 by Carm and Shirley Hampton. It was originally a Franchise started by a couple of disgruntled Mcdonalds Franchisees in 1956. The goal was then, as it is now, to serve fresh hot food at an affordable price. The Franchise was bought out by Hardees in 1971. The franchises faced a decision either become Hardees or Change the name. At this point the Hamptons changed the name to “Sandee's”. When Carm passed away in the late 70’s Shirley sold the business to Frank Johnson. He ran the business from 1978ish to 1996 when he closed the doors and gave the keys back to Shirley as he still owed for the business. Shirley wasn't interested in reopening so she sold the contents and Sandee's remained closed, Till Scot and Jennifer Ireton (Daughter of Carm and Shirley) decided to make a go of a new concept “ Sandee's in a Food Trailer” with a crazy busy soft opening on May 8th 2016 ( Mothers day ). The city of Billings welcomed them back with open arms stating “it tasted just like high school”. After a great first year the couple decided to purchase a second trailer! This would prove to be a difficult business model in the Montana winter months so In December of 2017 They signed a 1-year lease at 1125 S 27th St. This would become the new base of operations for their growing business. The building didn’t initially have a hood system so they made the 2nd trailer their kitchen for one long year while they tried to figure out how to get a system in place in the restaurant. Thanks to an awesome landlord the indoor kitchen was put in place in the fall 2018. They have now expanded to include a store front in Lockwood at Casey's Corner, 2816 Old Hardin Rd.
